The Plessey SYSTEM 250 was designed to meet the high reliability requirements for controlling networked telephone and data exchanges. Their experience in: complex real-time computer installations such as air-traffic control, message switching, traffic signaling systems, etc. The experience gained from the earlier Plessey XL series of computers was also drawn upon during the specification and design stage.
